The Kappa Mu Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to own & manage a fraternity house (or “Pike House”) for the Kappa Mu active chapter established at Wilfrid Laurier University.
The Foundation believes the Pike House is ‘More Than A House’, and owning it allows the chapter to achieve the following benefits:
There are many ways that YOU can participate in helping the Foundation achieve its mandate.
In the fall of 1994 a meeting occurred that would forever change our lives. A group of men sought the bonds of a fraternal organization, but found themselves disenchanted by the single option available in Waterloo. In this meeting chaired by Trevor Newell, a resolution was made to form their own organization.
Though they assessed a handful of organizations, one stood out as the clear choice to support the professional and social objectives of the group. For months after this meeting, then director of expansion, Steve Vincent (Missouri, Alpha Nu ‘83), exchanged communications with Newell for the purpose of helping them form a Colony of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Whispers of this new fraternity found the ears of worthy men across campus, and a group of twenty met with Vincent and four brothers from Iota Omega Chapter (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) on March 9th, 1995. Ten days later, expansion consultant, Max Holland (Georgia Southern, Iota Upsilon ‘93), visited WLU to commence the colonization process.
After a successful first rush, chapter consultant Jefrey Meletio (WInthrop, Theta Sigma ‘91) visited WLU to assist in the final stages of colonization, helping our founding members establish their goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Finally, Kappa Mu Chapter was chartered on March 23rd, 1996 with forty members.
To this day, Kappa Mu recruits members from all three academic institutions in the Kitchener-Waterloo area; Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Waterloo, and Conestoga College. We commit ourselves to upholding the values taught in our ritual and stated in our vision, mission, and creed.
